Summer countdown!
This summer I’ve decided to prepare a ‘summer countdown’ from June 1st to 23rd in order to practice summer vocabulary. I’m going to place 23 coloured envelopes on the wall, each with a word inside accompanied by a simple picture. Some words will be recycled, while others will be new.
Each day a different pupil is chosen to open the envelope for that day. I put their names in a bag and say to them What's the date today? Let's find out who's going to open today's envelope. The pupil takes out the card and shows it to the class. Then we use the word as a focus for different oral activities and eventually we hang the picture on a washing line.
All of the words collected are recycled later in the month through easy written exercises, word searches and guessing games describing the words. The activity also works as a kind of Advent calendar at Christmas. But in the summer, when children are already dreaming of the beach and the holidays, it gives them a little taste of what’s round the corner!

Bugs in the city!
Pupils at CP Gabriel Miró in Alicante were asked to imagine the Bugs characters at large in their city, taking in some of the best known sites. Here are some examples from each year group (click on the image to enlarge).

Gruffalo at Huelva Book Fair!
He’s everywhere! In April, the loveable beast created by Julia Donaldson entertained schoolchildren at the prestigious annual Feria del Libro in Huelva. This year’s highlights included a book-signing appearance by renowned author Julio Manuel de la Rosa and an interactive dramatization of the Gruffalo story by Macmillan teacher trainers Gail Butler and Josie Delgado (see pictures below - click on each to enlarge).
